Diagnosis and Management of DRESS (Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms) Syndrome
Lee Suh-Young

Abstract
Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) syndrome is a severe cutaneous adverse reaction characterized by fever, lymphadenopathy and multiorgan involvement. The delayed onset of symptoms makes diagnosis difficult, leading to increased mortality. A high degree of clinical suspicion and prompt discontinuation of the causative drug are important in the management of DRESS syndrome. Although the exact pathophysiology of DRESS syndrome is unclear, recent studies have shown the genetic predisposition of DRESS syndrome and associations between viral reactivation and the severity and persistency of DRESS syndrome. A better understanding of the pathophysiology of DRESS syndrome is needed for the identification of preventable risk factors and development of effective treatment strategies.
